Be free!!!

We have a decent amount of property here and a bunch of horses needlessly standing around in small corrals. The perimeter of the property is fenced and we have been working on some cross fencing but never seem to find the time to ever finish anything. We have both been just sick of seeing the poor mares just standing around mindlessly in inches of mud none-the-less. So today we took two of the girls, Sunday and Hornet and just turned them loose. We put Cody. the stallion where they couldn't get to them and closed the perimeter gates. These two girls were the two we thought would cause the most trouble, so I waited until Sunday's nose was deep in the grass and just let the halter fall. I petted her and walked away. Hornet was a good girl too. Just happy to be out and went to eating grass.
So I thought why not get another horse? So I went to get Cat and put her out. They are loving it. Nobody ran like an idiot. I was just sure somebody would hurt themselves on something. We will see if they are there in the morning! Then we will put out a few more with them. I think we have at least three others that we want to put out. My little BLM mustang mare is one of them. She used to be out with the cattle when they were in Tehachapi. Suena, Jeremy's buckskin mare is another. Min, the paint mare Jeremy has rode quite a bit. Charlie, Jeremy's gelding he doesn't get to ride much anymore. Heck we could probably put them all out but I think we will leave it at that for now. There is plenty of room where they are on the bottom half of the property for all of them. Hopefully our hay bill will be relieved even if just a bit!

Here is what my sweet rascals were up to all day. Their friends came and they got to play together the whole day. They had such a great time. Steele and Grace are in the background, dunking Breyer horses in the water trough. Natalie, Sage and Olivia are playing with Barbies on the blanket.


Here is Steele's favorite girl, Natalie. He has always just loved her. I keep asking him if Natalie is his favorite girl just so I can see that cute little grin he gets when he thinks about her.

Horsemanship Clinic @ Moonraker Ranch

These pictures are from yesterdays horsemanship clinic. It was a beautiful day and we all had a great time. It was awesome to see the changes in all of the horses. I have to say how brave people that bring their horses to clinics are. I also rode a filly that had only a few rides on her yesterday. Jeremy had started her for me but yesterday was only the second time I had ridden her and probably only the six time she has ever been ridden. She had only been off the property a few times and I was seriously nervous. I couldn't imagine doing that somewhere where I didn't know the people. What I am trying to say is "Good for you!" to the people who stick it out and work hard with their horses! Not everyone is pictured in this post but I will try and get all of you up soon. And of course there are no pictures of me and my Poco cause I had the camera but she did AWESOME!!!

This is Kelly and her rescued PMU horse. She hadn't been able to ride for the last few months due to the weather and she was very brave and came out and worked very hard. They are looking great together!!!

This is Kristie and her little rascal. He has only had a few rides on him also. She is doing a great job with him.

Jeremy & Charlie

This is Jeremy and Charlie out gathering one day. Charlie hasn't been doinog much the last few years since Jeremy has been so busy riding other horses. So they really enjoyed the morning together. Jeremy has had Charlie since the horse was only a couple of months old. He just turned 12 years old.

My little cowboy is killing me! Insisting on riding all of the time. Jeremy gave him Sage's old pair of chinks today and he told me when he gave them to him his face was sooooo cute. He said to Jeremy "now I am like you dad!" How sweet is that?

Three years old and he watches Jeremy ride and does just what he needs to do to make Chico go where he wants. Chico is the BOMB!!!

Getting ready to ride. That is my Poco next to Chico. Jeremy didn't even really warm her up and rode her with Steele. Don't you just love the snow dusting on the mountains? It was just beautiful today. It had melted by about noon and now tonight it is COLD again!

My first ride on Poco!

I absolutley LOVE this filly. Jeremy started her for me and has ridden her about four, maybe five times and today I got to ride her for the first time. The stars alined just right and it was so fun!!! She is a wonderful little girl, no nonsense just wants to be used. Everytime you go to get Chico out of the pen she meets you at the gate hoping it is her you are after. She just had a content look on her face today, happy to be the one to be picked.

Or course Jeremy has her nice and soft already. Doesn't she look so nice?! Did I say how much FUN I had? We have a horsemanship clinic this weekend and I plan to ride her and Jeremy is bringing another colt that was born the same year. Both are sired by Cody, my beloved main mount.

We lucked out and had a beautiful day before the clouds rolled in this afternoon. This is one of the many shots I got of Paul working his mare today.

He is gaining ground by leaps and bounds now. She is really starting to
trust him and enjoy being with him. I would say this is only about the fifth time he has worked with her.

Steele, my little rascal is killing me! He insisted on wearing these chinks all day. Did you see the plumbers crack?! They kept pulling his pants down. He is still wearing them as I write!
